At Enhanced Scanning, most of our utility locating projects involve customers who are about to start a project on their property. Either they want to excavate somewhere on their grounds or they want to renovate a structure and need to know where all utility lines are located before they start. Very rarely do we get customers who have no immediate project plans and just want to know where their utilities are located, but it does happen on occasion—typically right after a building has changed hands or is about to be sold.

If you own or manage a property and don’t have an accurate set of plans indicating where all of your utility lines are located, it might be worth having a set created, even if you don’t have an immediate need that is pushing you to do so. At some point, you might want to renovate or build, or you might experience an issue where it becomes necessary to know where things are located. When either of these things occur, you’ll be prepared!

We had a customer not long ago who was experiencing plumbing problems in their building. In order to get the issue handled, they needed to know where the plumbing and sewer lines were located. However, because the building had been renovated multiple times over the years, they didn’t have a set of accurate as-built drawings available to them.

The Enhanced Scanning team came in and located the utility lines in the entire facility using a variety of non-destructive scanning and locating tools. We used a ground penetrating radar (GPR) antenna, a sewer push camera, a traceable rodder, fish tapes, and more. When we were finished and had compiled all the data, we presented the customer with a CAD overlay that they could use to help them with their immediate plumbing issue, as well as any utility issues that might arise in the future.

It’s only a matter of time before your home or building has some sort of utility issue—whether it involves your plumbing and sewer system, electrical lines, gas lines, or telecommunications lines. Having an accurate set of plans that tells you where everything is located can allow you to address the problem immediately and safely.

If you call us with an emergency situation and need to know right away where to find your utility lines, we will certainly get to you as quickly as we can, but it’s always better to be prepared for such an instance! Contact our office today to get a quote on utility locating or to schedule service. We cover all of Southern California.
